Ambilight for YouTube™ – Privacy
Last updated: 1 October 2026
Ambilight for YouTube™ does not collect, send or sell any data. It has no account, no analytics and no ads, and it makes no network requests of its own.
What the extension does on your device
On www.youtube.com it reads the colors of the playing video from a small, scaled-down copy of the current frame and draws the glow around the player. This happens inside your browser. No picture, color or video information leaves your device.
What is stored
Your settings (for example brightness, spread, edges and in which views the glow is active) are saved in the browser's extension storage on your device, so they are kept between visits. Removing the extension deletes them.
Permissions
- Storage: to keep your settings.
- Access to www.youtube.com: to read the colors of the playing video and draw the glow there. The extension does not run on any other website.
Support button
The Support button in the menu opens the developer's tip page on ko-fi.com in a new tab. Nothing is sent before you open it. On that page, Ko-fi's own privacy policy applies.
